All companies are obliged to comply with time registration requirements

On 1 July 2024, a change in the Working Time Act comes into force and obliges all companies to comply with a time registration requirement for employees in order to avoid overload due to overtime and ensure compliance with applicable rest periods.

The company has the option to deviate from the rules on maximum weekly working hours in cases where the employee is either on-call and performs functions of social importance, such as physicians and firefighters, or if the employee has “significant influence on the planning of working hours” and is exempt from the rules on rest time under the Rest Time Order (known as “Self-organiser”).

General recommendations

The general recommendations (from EY Law and others) are that employment certificates should be updated to specify in the employment contract or in an addendum that the employee is obliged to record working hours or is exempt from the above.
